January 2011 / Enero 2011

January 2011 will be my favorite month of all time or....perhaps February 2011?

I wrote ten things that I would like to accomplish this year. I want to be clear that they are not New Year´s resolutions. When I was younger, each year I used to make the same resolutions and after two months I always forgot about them. I felt that resolutions were somehow mandatory and I did not make them with pleasure.

There are a lot of things I would like to do this year but I wrote only ten. How boring to write a big list. The main thing is that I will do this list with joy and pleasure. Well, I am not completely sure how much pleasure I will get from going to the DMV to get my license.

1. Be a great mom
2. Knit a scarf for Miranda
3. Continue with photography
4. Read three American writers
5. Get my California Driver's License
6. Join a new mom´s group
7. Get a job that allows me to work from home
8. Learn something new everyday
9. Practice new cooking recipes
10.Study and write in English

NON-PAREILS

This year the gifts I gave for Christmas were these delicious non-pareils. At first, I was not sure why they were called this name, but after making them for the first time some months ago and seeing that I had to make them one by one, I started looking for a mold online to make my life easier. But I never found a mold, and then I realized that I was never going to find one. A mold for non-pareils does not exist for the simple reason that there cannot be two identical candies. That´s why they are called NON-PAREILS, which literally means no-equal.

I also made soaps for Christmas gifts. I made some exfoliants like blueberry and apricot, and moisturizing soaps like oatmeal with coconut, oatmeal and honey, and chamomile with honey. All made with organic ingredients. Mmm they smell delicious....

Mmm huelen delicioso...

Christmas Dinner/ Cena de Navidad

This Christmas was very different from all the others I have had. Michael and I decided to stay at home and have a romantic Christmas Dinner. It was a very special Christmas waiting for our daughter´s arrival. I loved this Christmas!

Here are two of the Christmas decorations I made this year for our condo, for Michael and I.

This is a Christmas tree. The snowflakes were a gift from Susie, my mother-in-law. She bought them at the New York Metropolitan Museum. They are thin wooden snowflakes which I glittered and hung them on some branches that I found on the streets of Berkeley. Then I decided to give a little more color and I placed 8 red cards with a thought in each one. It is a thankful thought of this year 2010. Michael wrote 4 and I wrote 4. I love our sui generis Christmas tree!

This is another Christmas decoration. My mom gave me this little cute nacimiento. It is from Mexico. As it is so little and I wanted to highlight it, I decided to introduce it into my cheese dome and sprinkle it with gold glitter. This is the result. I like it so much!

Me encanta!

India & Nepal

India
Who has been to India and does not want to go back? This country is such a rich, melting pot of religions, languages and cultures, all of which make it so interesting and mysterious .....  I love India and its people. It is a fascinating country full of contrasts, colors and flavors.

Tan contrastante y misterioso.
Espero algún día regresar con Michael y Miranda.

Sales Bargain

Michael tells me that I am a sales hunter and it is true. I am a sales hunter and love to bargain. I love to feel that I got the best deal. But I haven´t been always like that. Before getting married I did not notice the price of the item before I get to the register but times have changed and my priorities too.
I love to shop but in a smarter way. Who does not like to shop?
Well....I think Michael, he is one of the rare creatures that doesn´t like to shop!

Paris

Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world. I studied and worked there for one year and a half and I love it. Is there a more beautiful city anywhere on the globe?

For me it has always had a very special meaning.  The first time I went was with my parents many years ago, and then I returned several times for studies and vacations. And now it has a double special meaning because my husband and I spent our honeymoon there, and it was wonderful!
